SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY
If you are unable to work because of physical or mental problems and your disability has lasted or is expected to last at least a year, you may be entitled to disability benefits from the social security administration. Unlike social security retirement benefits, age is not the criteria used to determine whether or not you qualify. However, both disability and retirement benefits require that you have contributed to the system a certain number of quarters in order for your application to be considered.
